Start your day with something real

Turn on the morning anchor, and nothing else opens until you've done one real thing

Getting past a block costs something real

  1. Block what pulls you in

Any site or app on your PC, one at a time or a whole category at once

  2. Go do something real

A walk, the gym, a chapter, practicing piano, FaceTiming an old friend. Your list, your call

  3. Say what you did, earn time

If it's specific, the site opens for the time you've chosen, 5 to 60 minutes

More on how it works

Why I built this

In this age of social media and screens everywhere you look, I found myself spending more and more time consumed by them. As the years went by, I began to realize I was wasting valuable moments staring at my computer or mindlessly doomscrolling. I'd pick up my phone just to pick it up, or open an app, close it, and open it again, just because my brain wanted something to do. These apps do change your brain.

With the rate technology is moving, device usage will continue to rise. It makes me think of WALL-E, where people spend their whole lives in chairs, staring at screens. And while that scene may be a bit of an exaggeration, I don't believe it is too far off what could be our world someday.

So I decided to make DoHardStuff. These apps are built to keep you hooked, so it lets the rational you set limits that the low-willpower you can't easily undo later. You earn your way back onto them, and you start your day doing something real.

I'm writing this before the initial public release. I hope you enjoy DoHardStuff, and that it helps you live a more fulfilling life.
